Memento

Memento

The inspiration for this piece came from a trip to Build-A-Bear I made with my family after my sister was bit by a dog. This was a positive experience that took place because of a bad experience. We were innocent enough not to realize that we were only getting stuffed animals because of the trauma we had experience. My sister made a pink poodle which is represented by the pink fabric. The cream fabric represents the yellow lab I made, it surrounds the pink because I felt I should have been able to protect her. The blue thread represents the bright blue stitches my sister received.

Materials
  • Pink fabric
  • Cream fabric
  • Blue thread

Map Relief

Map Relief

For this project I took inspiration from natural geodes. I work at a jewelry store that sells a lot of natural stones and I feel that aspect has shown through in this work. I used ink and gel medium for some of the purple tones and pastels for the majority of the purple and black. The outer wall is made completely of paper and Gesso. I used the stacking method to make this relief.

Balsa Wood Sculptures

Balsa Wood Sculptures

This balsa wood sculpture focuses on focal point. I created a bulls eye using the color of the wood glue against masking tape. Then using the white paper I made shapes that point up to the focal point.

Materials:
  • Masking tape
  • Wood glue
  • White paper
  • Balsa wood
Dimensions:
3" x 3" x 3.8"

This piece was focused on creating pattern and variety. I used the same diamond pattern, covered in tape all the way around the cube but then left one uncovered.

Materials:
  • Balsa wood
  • White paper
  • Masking tape
Dimensions:
4" x 4.1" x 3.8"

This piece represents texture. I used multiple materials with different textures and also used sand paper and cross hatching with an Exactoknife to change the texture of some materials.

Materials
  • Balsa wood
  • Wood glue
  • Masking tape
  • White paper
Dimensions:
3.9" x 4.2" x 4.25"

2D project 4

In this series of photos I turned my sister into a focal point for her birthday. It emphasizes the attention that people usually receive on their birthdays.

In this video I emphasized my addiction to caffeine.

In this video I showed the imbalance between social life and school work. Every time the cell phone rings the book must get larger in an attempt to balance out.

Masked Identity

Masked Identity

The concept for this mask was the symbol of the raven. It is an omen of illness and death. I made it tilted to show movement like it may be ready to fall over. The color was an attempt to mimic parchment or sickly skin. The beak was a play on the plague mask. I took pictures touching the mask as an attempt to highlight the acts I partake in while sick. Rubbing my eyes and nose.

Materials:
  • Wire
  • Tracing paper
  • Ink
  • Gauze
  • Gel medium
